It was Sept. 6, 1966, after a buildup of several months, a daily newspaper the Citizen Tribune was born. The paper was created to serve the eight-county Lakeway Region, providing news coverage on a wider basis and helping the paper’s advertisers reach a wider audience. Through the ensuing decades, the Tribune has documented the Region’s growth, from its development as a furniture and textile manufacturing mecca to its rebirth as a diverse manufacturing hub and budding tourism destination. The Tribune has been there to document the lives of the people of the Lakeway Region as well as their extraordinary achievements. It has been our pleasure to share those stories with our readers. After all, as Citizen Tribune founding publisher R. Jack Fishman has often said, the newspaper business is a people business.
